“Becoming B Corp certified isn’t just a badge—it’s a reflection of our values. We believe business should be a force for good, and this certification holds us accountable to building a company that’s not just profitable, but also responsible, inclusive, and sustainable.” Maarten Rijnders, Co-Owner
Certified B Corporations are companies verified by B Lab™ to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
B Corps are committed to balancing profit with purpose, considering the impact of their decisions on all stakeholders: workers, customers, communities, and the planet.
This global movement is about using business as a force for good, reshaping the economy to be more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative.
For Butcher of Blue, becoming a B Corp is more than a certification; it’s a commitment to align our business with our values.
We believe in creating timeless, durable clothing that not only looks good but does good - for people and the planet.
By achieving a score of 104 in the B Impact Assessment, we’ve proven our dedication to social and environmental impact, accountability, and transparency. But this isn’t the end of our journey, it’s the start of improvement.
Our B Corp journey involved rigorous assessment in five key impact areas:
· Governance: Implementing structures that ensure accountability to all stakeholders, not just shareholders.
· Workers: Ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and employee well-being.
· Community: Supporting local communities and actively participating in responsible sourcing.
· Environment: Minimizing our environmental footprint by producing durable, sustainable clothing.
· Customers: Creating high-quality products that prioritize long-term value over fleeting trends.
A B Impact Assessment score above 80 qualifies for certification. Scoring 104 is a testament to our commitment to sustainable practices.
It reflects our dedication to making responsible choices across our entire business. From sourcing organic cotton to maintaining ethical partnerships with suppliers.
It’s a testament to the choices we make on employment; we are inclusive in the broadest sense and proudly work together with people with barriers to employment and refugees of war.
At Butcher of Blue, we don’t just create clothing - we’re crafting pieces with a purpose. Our mission is to produce timeless, well-made garments that respect both people and the planet. This means using sustainable materials, reducing waste, and working with partners who share our values of transparency and fair practices. We believe in responsible production, where every piece tells a story of quality and conscious craftsmanship.
But it’s not just about what we make, it’s also about what we give back. We’re proud to be part of a supportive community, and use our business as a force for good. Every year we donate 2% of our revenue in products to local and national causes. We’re always open to new ideas and opportunities, whether it’s pro bono work, donations, or collaborations that inspire and uplift.
Have a great idea? Let’s connect and make it happen.
To further extend the lifecycle of our products, we’ve partnered with De Naaierij, a skilled sewing atelier that repairs and rejuvenates your favorite Butcher of Blue garments. Because who wants to part from their favorite piece of clothing right?

Our mission is to create products that last. However, when a product is no longer your favorite, consider giving it a second life. If it’s still in good condition, pass it on to a new owner or sell it through pre-loved channels. If the item has truly reached the end of its life, recycle it or drop it off at a textile recycling destination.
If recycling isn’t an option for you, return it to our warehouse, and we will ensure it is properly processed with the help of Het Leger des Heils.
